Pilot Kneeboard
A rigid aluminum writing surface that stays on your leg. Copy ATIS, clearances and frequencies without juggling a clipboard, with the numbers you need most printed right on the face.
- Rigid aluminum board. A flat, solid surface for writing in the air, even in light turbulence.
- Strong metal clip. Holds a 5 × 8 in notepad, checklists or a folded chart section.
- 1.5 in elastic leg strap. Hook-and-loop closure keeps the board steady on your thigh.
- VFR quick reference on the face. Light gun signals, transponder codes, VFR weather minimums and cruising altitudes.
- Built-in pen holder. Your pen stays on the board instead of under the rudder pedals.

Room to write, and it still clears the yoke.
Full-size clipboards fight the yoke in a 172. At 5.5 × 8 in, this board sits on your thigh and leaves room to fly.

Habits worth starting early.
Pre-draw a grid
Before engine start, draw boxes for information letter, wind, visibility, sky, temperature/dew point, altimeter and runway. When the recording plays, you fill boxes instead of scribbling.
Write the frequency first
When ATC gives you a frequency change, write the number before you read it back. If you lose it, the frequency is the one thing you can't guess.
Right thigh, snug, not tight
Most right-handed students strap the board to the right thigh. Snug enough that it doesn't slide on rollout, loose enough that you can rotate it to write.
Kneeboard questions.
What size notepad fits?
The board is 5.5 × 8 in, so standard 5 × 8 in pads and half-letter sheets fit under the clip. Full letter-size paper needs folding.
Is the strap included?
Yes, every kneeboard ships with the 1.5 in elastic strap. If yours is missing, contact us through your Amazon order and we'll make it right. Spare straps are sold separately.
Will it work for flight simulator setups?
Yes. Plenty of sim pilots use it at the desk for checklists and approach notes.
Is the reference face for the US or Canada?
The face follows US FAA conventions. Light gun signals are the same in Canada, but weather minimums and some procedures differ, so Canadian students should check the CARs and the AIM Canada.
Planning your first cross-country?
Pair the kneeboard with the rotating plotter.
